CHRISTMAS LEFT OVERS:
Put left over red wine into ice cube trays and freeze. Use in red meat stews to add a 'kick'.
Make potato and stuffing cakes with the left overs, freeze and lightly crisp on the pan for one of those busy day dinners.
Crumble some Christmas pudding into a sundae glass, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, some cramberry sauce (heated through) and top with chopped nuts and chocolate shavings. A winner for using left overs and impressing everybody!
3 SPRING GREENS:
Pick some young nettle leaves this spring/summer and add to a soup, omelette or quiche for a nutritional boost. Pick some dandelion leaves and add to salads and smoothies or pick some wild garlic, chop and scatter over a salad or make a fabulous pesto for a tasty pasta dish.
PUMPKIN SEEDS:
Remove the seeds from the pumpkin and wash under cold running water. Allow to drain and dry. Arrange on a baking sheet, sprinkle with some seaweed flakes and roast for 40-50 minutes at 180c. Allow to cool and serve as a healthy snack. Enjoy. Chiili flakes or sea salt can also be used.
SIMPLE & HEALTHY SALAD DRESSING:
In a jam jar place 6 tbsp olive oil and 2 tbsp lemon juice or cidar vinegar. Add some chopped fresh parsley, 1 crushed clove of garlic, seasoning and 1/2 tsp wholegrain mustard. Shake well and store in the fridge or serve. Some honey can also be added if liked.
WAKE UP THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM:
Start each morning with a large glass of warm water with a squeeze of lemon in it. This gently wakes up the digestive enzymes before having a healthy and satisfying breakfast.
HOW TO PREVENT WATERING EYES WHEN DICING ONIONS:
Peel the onion and do not cut root. Cut slices downwards while holding the root with one hand and turn to do same at right angles to that, always keeping root intact. Now slice from the outside in towards root to create dice. Root should be the only remaining waste piece. No tears!
HOW TO KEEP SALAD LEAVES FRESH:
Once salad he leaves are picked, they start to wilt rapidly. Rince the leaves under water and spin them dry or pat them dry with a clean towel. Put them on a tray or plate with sheets of damp kitchen paper placed over them and store in the fridge.
OMEGA OIL SNACK!
Put a mixture of seeds into a large dry, clean jam jar (linseeds, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame and hemp). Make sure that at least 1/3 of the jar contains linseeds. Shake well and store in the fridge. Pour some into a little container for children to nibble while doing homework or for a long car journey.
PREVENTING A CUT AVOCADO FROM TURNING BROWN:
Sit the cut avocado on top of a half red onion, cut side up, and place in a container, cover and put in the fridge. |
